The azaleas are blooming, patrons are prepping their pimento cheese sandwiches, and the Masters roars are just around the corner. But before the pressure cooker that is Augusta National cranks up to high heat, there’s a delightful tradition that ushers in Masters week: the Par 3 Contest!
This fun-filled event is more than just a chance for the pros to loosen up their swings. It’s a day for families, with wives, girlfriends, kids, and even grandkids becoming caddies for the day. It’s heartwarming to see these future generations getting a taste of the Masters magic.
The course itself is a charmer – a nine-hole, par-27 layout that winds its way through the beautiful northeast corner of Augusta National. Don’t be fooled by the short yardage, though. Water features like DeSoto Springs Pond and Ike’s Pond come into play on several holes, making shot selection crucial.
Speaking of shots, the Par 3 Contest is famous for them – aces, that is. With shorter distances and relaxed vibes, aces are more frequent here than in any other PGA Tour event. The 2016 record of nine holes-in-one might be tough to beat, but you can bet there will be plenty of roars for aces this year.
