Hole More Putts with Improved Contact

In this weeks blog, we will look at a simple putting exercise to help beginner golfers set out on the right path with their putting stroke! One of the biggest issues that golfers face when putting is the inability to consistently strike the ball from the centre of the putter face. This can be caused by irregularities in the putting stroke, which can lead to heel or toe strikes and result in missed putts.

To help new golfers improve their putting stroke and strike the ball more consistently, I recommend using a path board. This simple training aid can trace the correct path of the putter and help create a more repeatable stroke. By practicing with a path board, golfers can significantly improve the centredness of their strikes at impact.

If you don’t have access to a path board, there’s an alternative drill you can try. Simply place a tee peg on either side of your putter – one at the toe end and one at the heel end. Then, place a ball in the middle of the tees and make your putts without hitting the tees. This will encourage a more consistent stroke and strike.

Mastering the fundamentals of putting, such as achieving a centred strike, is crucial for improving your performance on the greens. By incorporating these simple drills into your practice routine, you’ll be holing more putts in no time.
